Igen partnered with Glencar Construction and PLP to design and install a 148 kWp commercial solar PV system at Pioneer Point, a new high-quality logistics development strategically located between Junctions 7 and 8 of the M53. The installation forms a key component of PLP’s commitment to delivering units built to the UK Green Building Council’s net zero-carbon standards, enhancing the site’s sustainability credentials and supporting occupiers in reducing operational carbon.
The Challenge
Pioneer Point has been designed as a next-generation logistics hub, with sustainability at the forefront. The project required a high-performance rooftop solar PV solution capable of contributing significantly to on-site renewable energy generation while integrating seamlessly into the construction programme led by Glencar Construction. The system needed to meet strict carbon reduction targets, support the site’s net zero-carbon ambitions, and operate alongside other sustainability measures such as extensive EV charging infrastructure. With growing demand for low-carbon industrial space in the North West, the installation had to deliver long-term, reliable energy generation for future occupiers.
The Solution
Igen designed and installed a 148 kWp rooftop solar PV system, engineered to maximise energy output across the available roof area. The system will produce approximately 137,000 kWh of clean energy per year, helping reduce grid dependency while avoiding an estimated 58,275 kg of CO₂ emissions annually. Delivered in coordination with Glencar Construction, the installation was completed to the high standards required of a net zero-carbon-ready development, ensuring full compliance with sustainability benchmarks and seamless integration into the wider building services design.
The Results
-
System capacity: 148 kWp
-
Annual clean energy generation: 137,000 kWh
-
Annual CO₂ emissions avoided: 58,275 kg
-
Sustainability benefits: Supports UKGBC net zero-carbon standard compliance and enhances site energy performance
The Impact
Pioneer Point is strategically located with direct access to Ellesmere Port and the regional motorway network via the M53 and M56, making it a prime location for modern logistics and industrial occupiers. The integration of renewable energy ensures the development delivers strong environmental performance from day one.
